The creative process is something that is difficult to explain at times. And perhaps it is because it is different for everyone. I have to admit that I’ve been struggling with what to write next. Recording of Shelter will beging in 3 weeks, but part of me wants to start writing new material. I have a few ideas on “tape” (sorry, old expression, but I still like to think I’m recording to tape) but nothing concrete yet.

It’s just that every album since I started writing has always had a theme behind after the first couple of songs. And right now I feel as if I am working in a vacumn, uncertain what these songs will mean. And there is the desire to be innovative and exciting. Perhaps I am just forcing myself to fit into old patterns.

The follow up to Shelter was orignally titled “Diverged.” But now I am not certain I want to go down that thought. Then I thought of resurrecting a project that I never completed called “Look Around.” That however, also feels forced.

Perhaps the best option is to simply let the ideas go and see where they take me. I just need to continue writing and see where the songs take me. In the meantime, the focus will be on Shelter. I’m looking forward to working with the musicians I’ve found. I feel that they will add life and color to songs that I have written a couple of years ago.

This will be a good project.
